Pioneer’s Newsletter Addresses Valve Of GPS-based Field Records: The value of GPS-based field records was recently Addressed in the “Crop Insights” newsletter published by Pioneer. The newsletter Provides examples of some typical time-and geo-referenced field records, the listing of Commonly used time-and geo-referenced information in GPS-based field records and describes how to use the GIS to create new spatial information. CSREES Announces Joint Program With NASA On The Application Of Geospatial & Precision Technologies: The Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service (CSREES) and the Earth Science Enterprise (ESE) of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) are soliciting Proposals for the Application of Geospatial and Precision Technologies Program, per the Federal Register of March 16, 2001. The “Letter of Intent” is requested and due by April 11, 2001. Proposals must be received by May 9, 2001. Third International Conference On Geospatial Information & Agriculture In foresty To Be Held November 5-7: The Third International Conference on Geospatial Information in Agriculture and Forestry to be held November 5-7, 2001 in Denver, Colorado, will focus on the latest Developments in advanced geospatial data and information technologies. The conference will explore today’s technologies to Improve decision-making while future research Defining Requirements and Implementation strategies. The three-day technical program will offer more than 300 presentations in plenary and interactive poster sessions, with workshops and exhibits of products and services. Precision Ag Group (NCR-180) To Continue Its Good Work: During the Annual NCR-180 meeting held January 4-6 at the Concourse Hotel in Madison, Wisconsin, one of the key issues of discussion by the committee was to request the extend NCR-180 Site-Specific Management Until 2005 programs. An extensively revised document detailing the committee’s request has been sent to Dr. Glenn Hoffman, the Administrative Advisor from the University of Nebraska. Two new groups formed Were Also at the meeting. The first group led by Don Bullock will coordinate the development of an upper division textbook for site-specific management (SSM). The second group will explore opportunities Other scientific publishing, Which Could be modeled after the series Advances in Agronomy. Pete Nowak, Fran Pierce and Don Bullock will lead this effort. The next meeting will be held next year at Penn State.NCR-180 Represents outside researchers from land grant university experiment stations That are working in precision agriculture. Minutes From The ASAE PM-54 Now Online February Meeting: Minutes from the February 25, 2000, ASAE PM-54, Precision Agriculture Committee meeting held in Kansas City, MO, are now available for review. A copy of the attendee roster is also available. PM-54 deals with precision agriculture. Currently, the standards committee is two addresses: Yield Monitor Performance Test Standard and Yield Monitor Field Engineering Test Procedure. (4/7/00)
Productive ISO Agricultural Equipment Standards Meetings Held Last Week in Frankfurt: The full week’s worth of international standards meetings Pertaining to agricultural equipment issues Concluded last week in Frankfurt, Germany with positive progress being wellness made on a number of standards dealing with equipment, testing and safety. The electronics Subcommittee (SC 19) ended the long-running and disruptive controversy continued on the request “to modify” the pet identification standards (ISO 11784 & 11785) by Resolving That the standards are published, are being wellness used; are Generally well received globally , and will not be discussed again Until They are up for five year review in 2001. Also, the series of mobile electronics equipment standards (ISO 11783 Parts 1-11) are nearing completion after many years of hard work. Separately, future discussions are planned for “moving” the development of safety standards from CEN to ISO. The first official joint meeting to discuss the process and structure for doing this will be held May 19 in Frankfurt. (3/30/00)

LBS Documentation Version 2.0 Now Available Through LAV: The German Association of Agricultural Machinery Manufacturers (BLM) recently published version 2.0 of the LBS specifications. Since the publication of Version 1.0 of the LBS Documentation in February 1997, many things have Happened. The standard parts DIN 9684-4 and DIN 9684-5 finished Were Within The comments-resolution meeting, the R & D project on the LBS Which was promoted by the German Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (BML) was completed, many manufacturers in Germany and in Europe have taken up the idea of LBS and LBS Developing components have started, and the International Standardization work has progressed with LBS by keen input and J1939 concepts.To Obtain a copy of the 335-page document, send an email to the German Association of Agricultural Machinery Manufacturers (LAV), Lyoner Strasse 18, D-60528 Frankfurt, Germany. A * E * A’s New Transfer Support Layer (TSL) Specification previewed at Precision Ag Conference on July 20: The recently completed draft version of the A * E * A Transfer Support Layer (TSL) Specification was unveiled on Monday, July 20, 1998 , at the Fourth International Conference on Precision Agriculture in St. Paul, MN. The session, titled “TSL: What It Is and How It Will Facilitate the Exchange of Computerized Agricultural Data,” Began with a brief overview TSL / primer, Followed by a presentation on test implementor Implementation and an informal question and answer session.TSL Facilitates the exchange of computerized agricultural data, Particularly with spatial data content, by Providing a standardized framework for Identifying and describing the data sets to be Exchanged. Rather than define a particular spatial data format, TSL is Intended to be used with a Variety of existing formats, Both proprietary and public domain, that ‘are widely used in the precision agriculture community – including ESRI’s Shapefile ® format, MapInfo’s MID / MIF ® CMV and the common format (comma-separated-value) format. The intent is to automate Both the export and import sides of the process.The presentation was made by Darrin Drollinger of the Ag Electronics Association (A * E * A), David Stigberg of USA-CERL, Ted Macy Corp. of AGRIS. and Roger Burkhart of Deere & Company (TSL and Technical Working Group leader). Chairman User Council members include farmers and ag electronics Other users of tools. This council works on issues including common data standards, data content, methods of data analysis and specific language to be included in Contracts with suppliers to protect the intellectual property rights of ag producers.
